Bremen police said a parolee was captured Wednesday shortly after he tried to abduct a 7-year-old from the Bremen Walmart store.

Thomas Andrew Woods, 25, of Austell, was taken into custody and charged with attempted child abduction.

According to police, Woods attempted to grab the girl while inside the store at about 9:30 a.m. He tried to pick her up, put his hand around her mouth and carry her out of the store, police said.

“She did the right thing,” said Bremen Police Chief Keith Pesnell. “She fought back, and he put her down. We’re deeming the little girl a hero tonight. She did everything right.”

Woods tried to take the girl from a toy aisle while her mother was in a different aisle, said Pesnell. Security video from the store shows a man carrying the girl away and releasing her after she struggled to get away.

Woods is reportedly not related to the girl.

By the time police arrived, the man had fled.

I was just going to post this! YOU BEAT me LOL
My grandson has a "Yell & Scream" program at his school and they practice Yelling and screaming like this....When any child in their school is picked up from behind by any teacher they must yell and scream and are graded on it.
Good idea/good program as the Video shows :)

And it is all about teaching our children about self help and safety. They are more precious to us than anything in the world.

Our daughter took karate, and the granddaughter loves Kung Fu. As soon as the grandson has time from his list of sports, he'll be in some kind of self-defense class. He's vigilant, tho', no one is gonna get him or his sister. lol.

We have got to figure out how to get these people before they strike. Is it possible?

My kids just start whining about something, and everybody scatters.

Your lucky then, I prefer to make sure they are safe. I really do not think child safety is a joking matter in this day and age Dave.

I showed the kids this video because I realize its very hard to convey to children how easily they can fall prey to an adult.

They were a bit mortified, and some may condemn my action in showing it to them, but, I want them to realize that people are not basically good. People can be dangerous, no matter who they may be or pretend to be.

It really sucks to have to teach them this reality, and I may be considered paranoid by doing so, but so be it, like I give a shit what others think anyway. Kids are very trusting, they really don't know how to be distrusting, hateful and suspicious. We have code words for trouble and fear. These words are very similar to those I use with my dogs.
Not your average everyday word that will be repeated often in conversation and not words that would be confusing in a tense situation. Also, as terrible as it may seem to some, they do know how to defend themselves enough to hopefully get loose of an aggressor and it is not something we share with others. (Somethings are better left unknown)

It's such a wonderful world we live in isn't it?

That said ... we need to poke some fun about this shit sometimes so that we are not all forced to dig a phucking moat around us and never come out.

a person has to have some light with the heavy..when people see cops smiling laughing at a accident ..it upsets some...what they are doing is coping :)

Sorry, just gut reaction....One of my 9 year old grandsons classmate was abducted....Because onr of the children has his IPhone, he got a Pic of the car and the guy was captured before he hurt the child.....Overreaction I guess.

When my daughter was 5, she was playing out front with a bunch of kids, like kids do, on a perfect summer afternoon.

My Wife said she had a funny feeling, she went out, and my daughter was gone, vanished, all the other kids were still there. It was like someone had just beamed her up, poof! The other kids said she went with a lady. We lived in the city then, and it was almost impossible to find her. We finally found her with some lunatic, pushing a baby cart, with a plastic doll in it, on one of the busiest roads in the area. She had taken her to her apartment. She was clearly mentally ill. We had talked repeatedly to our children about never going with anyone they did not know etc etc, yet, when this woman gave her a story about a puppy, and seeing a baby, she automatically trusted her, and went with her. Thank God everything turned out fine, but if you have to show your kids a mildly disturbing video to get them to understand there are whack jobs around most corners, I say go for it.

I hope you know I wasn't making light of the severity these acts when I posted the last paragraph..

It's just too much to read daily and some humor is a good thing. :(

I was trying to say what Buff, more eloquently did.

OM, I knew you weren't making light of it. Sometimes things "get" to us all and we need to lighten things a little. Life isn't easy nor tidy.

They don't teach as much Stranger Danger as they used to, because over half the time, the abductors are people the kids now.

I am well aware that laughter is a wonderful stress release.
I do apologize for my rather snippy retort. We all do reach levels of personal comfort in many different ways, and I of all should be aware of this.
One supposes that the horror of any child not being safe is beyond comprehension to most of us.
Yes, I agree we all must understand each and every approach to this subject steeling into our minds.
