We have the same mofo's on our deck. They scare away all the other birds. What are they called? They don't quite look like crows
Damn. I should have read the previous posts. Grackles. Yeah, those SOB's eat up all the bird seed we put out. They look up at the sky and breathe in a bunch of air to make themselves look bigger and scare other birds away. At least that's what I think they're doing
Handsome group of terrorists! As an aside: Around here I love it when the single juvenile males cause a ruckus. They band together and have a little fun at everyone's expense (their flocks and we humans).
Their guarding the bird feeder from other birds, they sit their all day, and ruffle up their feathers and chase off any sparrows, finches, and other birds I can't identify. Sheryl will be here soon to make fun of me about not being able to rotate pictures. Fixed before Sheryl saw it! But are those grackles, or black birds, or ???? One of them is looking right at me 10 feet away waiting to start some shit.
I noted the sideways pic. lol. I just picked up my Mac laptop and turned it. Bet your terrorists couldn't eat from these: http://www.finchfeederworld.com/Finch_Feeders.html
I had one of those "socks" a few feet away from the terrorists' compound. It was up for about 10 days, but no birds tried to take anything from it. Not sure if the black birds were chasing them off, or what the problem was, maybe I'll move it to someplace safer.
In my experience, ten days isn't long enough for a flock to find and feel comfortable feeding at a new site. If you can move it away, it might help your finch friends. They are lovely birds to watch. Good Luck.
Lost parakeet tells Tokyo police its address A lost pet parakeet has been returned safely to its owner in the Japanese capital Tokyo after it told the police its home address. The bird's owner, a 64-year-old woman, said she taught the address to her pet after she bought him two years ago. She had lost another parakeet previously and wanted to ensure that did not happen again, police said. The male bird was handed to local authorities on Sunday, and took two days to tell the police its address. The bird had escaped from its owner's home in west Tokyo on Sunday. It was captured at a nearby hotel where it was perching on a guest's shoulder. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-17934304

I'd like to read the back story on this ^. I'm kind of scared for the guy. I mean someday something might go badly...maybe the guy won't correctly "read" the bear's behavior, or something.
