I am amazed at how much I have learned in 12 years re a computer.
My kids got me started, and left to go back home.
Their parting advise......Don't click on anything that flashes/make sure you keep your Virus protection up-dated/and never answer an email from someone you do not know.....
    Worked for me LOL

How do I delete old conversations (private messages) that I don't want anymore?

If you take a look at your current conversation list, you may find some that you aren't interested in anymore.

You can click on a conversation, and then click the "Leave Conversation" link toward the top of it.

You will then be presented with 2 options when leaving that conversation
    • Accept future messages
    • Ignore future messages
If you "accept" future messages, the conversation will remain in a "deleted" state to you. You won't see it, but if anyone part of the conversation replies to it, it will be restored in its entirety for you to see.

If you "ignore" future messages, the conversation will be removed completely, and you won't receive any replies to the message if any participant updates it.

The normal course of action would be to "Leave the conversation", and "accept" future messages, if you are interested in seeing any replies from anybody participating in that conversation.

If you're not interested in the messages or future messages in the conversation (as in, if it was from Sheryl), l then "ignoring" future messages would make more sense.

Hey Dave. Something has changed in how my reply fields are showing up. I see
    Code:
    <p> and

    [code
    and
    [/code]
Plus, and most troubling, is the control features are gone. No nothing. I'm even having to hand type smilie code for crisssakes! Help a guy out. Did I change a setting or something?

LOL! I give up on editing that. I see
    Code:
     <p> and </p>
    now in my edit field.

HTML isn't parsed, so <p> and </p> come out naturally, as does <html> <br />, etc.

But I don't know if your question was answered or not.

Are you saying the RTE (Rich Text Editor) isn't showing controls? Maybe you've been switched to the Plain Text Edtior.

Do you have a link underneath the edit box that says "Use Rich Text Editor"? Click that and see if it goes back to what your familiar with.

If it seems it's a permanent condition, you can switch to use the Rich Text Editor (the one with drop down smilies), or the Plain Text Editor by default in your preferences with this option:
Use the rich text editor to create and edit messages

Are you seeing <p> and </p> in your quick reply box (at the bottom of the page) when you're viewing a thread? Try logging out and logging back in, or clear your cache. That might be a stuck javascript thing. I think I've seen that myself in the past.

Here's a screenshot of what I see after clicking "more options". If, after I post and I go to edit, that's when I see the code show up i mentioned. I don't see a link to change to Rich Text either unless I changed something in my preferences if there even is such a control there. I might have done something as there sure are a lot of controls....lol

I kinda sort see that too in Firefox, can you scroll down your page and see anything below that box or is that the bottom of your screen? Try clicking the triangle on the right of that chat box and see if that "unhides" anything.

Normally, you'd see a "Use Rich Text Editor" in (in your case) green right under that box on the left. Show or send me a screen shot of what your preferences page looks like.

I think you got a corrupted or borked javascript file for the editor. And it somehow fixed itself

Yes, it's the "discouraged users" feature here, and it works better.

Let me know which part(s) is(are) confusing, and I'll try to explain it better.

This board is a content and discussion board, it isn't a "let's see what I can get away with" board.

No question. Just a heads up. In the conversation area (pm), the smilies are messed up. Also, I don't get the red thingy alert I have a message or whatever. I get a pop up instead.

If you get a pop up at the bottom of the page, like "1000 new unread conversations", you can refresh and the red icon should show up at the top. The "pop up" or message at the bottom of the page is for convenenience. You can be typing a diatribe or a skeever recipe and that pop up may appear to let you know "Hey, you have something you might be interested in reading, but you won't notice it at the top of the page unless you refresh".

I think that's the point of the "pop up" unless I misunderstood what you mean by that.

I'll take a look at the smilies in the "conversation" area. That piece needs some work yet, including the ability to create attachments.

I know this is late and you are okay now, but for future reference I had the same thing happening to me for a week or more and I finally fixed it by hitting ctrl F5. Screen refreshed and when it did I had all the editing stuff at the top.
