The lowest I see around here is $3.68, some stations are up to as much as $3.77. The 1st 2 stations I encounter across the river in Maine are in the $3.80's. They got a higher tax over there I think. Diesel is as high as $4.20. That's the one that is gonna raise the prices in the grocery stores.
It think it's about 3.80 here for the 10% Ethanol stuff. I remember in the early 80's people were buying diesels because it was about 25% cheaper than gas.
During the mid to late 80's, I think I saw it around 70 cents, that was the cheapest I've seen it. I think we get desensitized to the price until it starts reaching a new dollar level.
Back when I first started driving the average price at the independent stations around here was $.28 and the name brands were around $.32. Every year or so there would be a price war over on gasoline ally, aka the "Miracle Mile" and I saw as low as $.17 one week probably in '68 or '69. Of course the cheapest I ever got it back then was one night when the Kwiki Kar wash forgot to turn their pumps off when they closed for the night...
$3.79 just this side of the MN border. $3.64 on the MN side of the border. I paid $3.63 to fill up about two miles further into MN. Wisconsin taxes are the difference...pretty much everyone crosses the border until they are so low on gas they have to coast in neutral down the hill to cross the river.
