Let's face it, we have to protect our young from the craziness around us.

I don't think white people really understand how much minorities must do to protect themselves from danger.

Gerald probably has a point, but are we now going to have to label hoodies as gang clothing? Will they be banned in schools? Should we really be that concerned about what types of layers kids are sporting in public? I'm just happy they have clothes on!

The whole "pants on the ground thing" should be outlawed in my opinion though, on grounds of stupidity.

No, I don't know if it should go that far, but parents and people should talk about it ALOT.

I'm concerned about what kids wear in public. Especially my family...my grandkids aren't/won't be allowed certain types of clothes.

Well, I know that where I live the schools are cracking down on hoodies with the hood up. While, they are allowed to where the hoods up outside in the cold, most teachers do require the students to take the hood off indoors. Unfortunately, hiding their faces with hoods is a method used by criminals and gang members to hide their identity. It is a fact of life.

However, I think Geraldo goes too far when he says the hoodie was just as responsible for Trayvon's death as Zimmerman. Zimmerman pulled the trigger of that gun, not the hoodie. The hoodie may have made Zimmerman more nervous and suspicious since he could not see Trayvon's face.

I have other questions, though, why was Zimmerman even carrying a gun while on Neighborhood watch. They are not there to arrest anyone, they are simply there to call police when necessary. Right? I also read that Zimmerman was not a real member of the watch or something. And, should he have been a member of the Neighborhood Watch with his criminal record?

Yeah, there is a lot to this story that needs to be figured out. From what I have read so far, I believe Zimmerman should definitely be prosecuted.

Yes, this isn't just racial (or hoody) profiling, this is manslaughter.

Zimmerman was some kind of self appointed Neighborhood watch, I'm not sure if he was even part of a group. He had a conceal and carry permit, and (as I understand it) confronted the kid and asked him what he was doing around that area, and supposedly a scuffle started(?) then Zimmerman shot him. There's a lot of stuff out there and I'm not sure which of it I'm supposed to believe.

Supposedly Trayvon "stole" the skittles or whatever candy he had in his posession, supposedly he called his girlfriend and told her that somebody was following or chasing him..... The 911 operator even told Zimmerman not to follow the kid.

None of that should be grounds for a bullet, but I don't understand why the guy isn't locked up at least for questioning.

Geraldo is a moron. o_O So Zimmerman claims "stand your ground" and shoots someone. Geraldo's answer is to tell young people "don't stand your ground. You like hoodies and want to wear them? Tough! Lie down for the bigots instead and throw your hoodies away."

This feels kind of like the still-too-frequent question after a rape, "what was she wearing?"

Rather than say "don't wear a hoodie," why not get everyone into hoodies and then ask those who stereotype and profile people based on what they wear "what now, idiots?"

Another POV from a white mother of an African-American son who says Geraldo is wrong to say hoodies are as much to blame as the shooter:

Sneaky, Geraldo misses the point. Completely. It's not hoodies. Whatever young people, especially young black people & most especially young black males, wear or display is quickly perceived as undesirable, fraught with hidden meanings & code speak.

Particularly in the case of young black people, especially males, they're assumed to be threatening, hostile & dangerous. IF it's not hoodies, it's bandanas or athletic shoes, or baseball caps, hairstyles, pants styles, tats & dental work.

That mindset is the root cause. Until/unless the psychology is changed avoiding hoodies is at best a very temporary 'solution'. Young black men & their preferred styles are NOT the problem. It's way past time to address the real problem rather than continually castigating the targets to dress, walk & talk differently.

Yes, the mindset is the root cause. But it's not going to change fast enough or completely.

The no hoodie is a temporary solution, but a must. I know it's way past time , but we have to protect our young people, so no hoodie or whatever.

Human animal groups look with suspicion at things that are "different" or they don't understand. It's a innate behavior that must be controlled, imo.

If that were a black dog he'd look awfully suspicious. We'd have to worry about what he was up to.

About time those criminals in Washington wore something that depicts their true criminal nature.

hmmmm ... interesting interpretation thereof ... so if a Muslim woman were ever elected to Congress, would she be in violation if she wore a head-scarf?

Since Spike Lee tweeted an elderly couple's phone number and address on his twitter page, the couple have received numerous death threats.

These are innocent people who had nothing to do with this.

Yet, they have to suffer the hate from all the haters.

    Haters sho nuff gonna hate.
