What are his chances of a second term, do you think?

About 50/50 in my opinion, probably higher if the unemployment rate keeps improving.

Too soon to tell, IMO. Who he runs against will have a lot to do with it.

Lower if gasoline stays in the 4 dollar zone. If it shoots to 5 dollars as Obama wishes, he'll pay the price.

Gasoline prices are the deal breaker for him with almost all Americans. That energy source alone, ranging upwards to 5.00 a gallon, affects all prices of everything we do/buy. EVERYTHING. When the middle class feels the crunch on their wallets like never before, heads will most certainly roll. Obama's energy policy is bereft of any decisions that would increase American production.

Not all the blame will be placed on his head since the oil companies are complicit with the high prices, but his track record on energy and 5 dollar gas will focus the anger of the middle class upon Obama.

He has disappointed me, but he is still charismatic. And I loved how he sang that song at the beginning of his speech. He can sing, that guy.:)

Alas, singers dont necessarily make good presidents.

6 months ago I would have said (actually i did say) his chances for re-election were poor.

But unfortunatly the Republicans launched a piss-poor field of candidates and there is not one in the bunch that can unseat even a weak incumbent like Obama.

In fact, as disappointed as I am in Obama, there isn't anyone remaining in the Republican race for the nomination that I would/will vote for.

So my choices are already down to Obama, 3rd party or write-in.

Obama has done some good things. And if he does get reelected I think he will do better in his second term. I think he has learned from his mistakes.

He got handed a plate full of shit left over from the last presidency...so he had his work cut out for him. But Im still disappointed. If he is re elected, then he has 4 more years and at least has 4 years already under his belt. Hopefully, he can fix what is broken before the next one takes his place.

Obama's slogans that got him elected were "Hope", "Change We Can Believe In" & "Yes we Can".

We are still "Hoping" for that "Change" 4 years later.

If he is elected for another 4 years he will be a lame duck and the odds of him doing more than (what little) he did the first 4 are slim to none.

4 years on and the good people that "believed" in that "change" & "hope" know they got stiffed.

Can we put him out of office? Yes We Can. Do we want any of the contenders? No we don't.

My friends, this election year the good people of the USofA are between a rock and a hard place.

    And it's our own fault.

    Applause.

I have to respectfully disagree with this. He is definitely pushing back at the "say NO to everything" bunch.

    :juggle: I say:

Give him another 4 years. Let's see how he does.

It sure beats the alternatives. I actually feel sorry for some Republicans I know who feel their options in the primary are nutty, nuttier, and nuttiest.

To the Republicans, they might feel about the same as the Democrats when Gore was running.
  18. FarLeft Active Member

    Not even close. :)

FarLeft, did you think Gore was the best democratic opponent to Bush in 2004? In hindsight, he obviously must have been since he won the popular vote.

Let's put it this way... I did not hold my nose to vote for Gore.

I like intelligence in a President.

Bush didn't have much, IMO. If he did have any, he sure had it hidden behind Cheney's big mouth. :giggle:

Gore did not have a lot of charisma. To a lot of people, Bush did. Sadly, that seems to matter to far too many people. I don't think charisma or the lack of it should have anything to do with why one votes for which candidate.

I also think far too many are people are one issue voters or strictly so-called social issue voters. Getting out of their comfort zone and looking at real information about the candidates makes sense to me. Those who say they are voting for this guy or that guy because he "has my social values" gag me. In most cases they have no clue what else he stands for.
