I'm sorry, but I think it sounds sneaky. It's like he is saying that after the election he doesn't have to worry about what the American people think. He can do what he wants, not what the American people want. Tell the people what they want to hear before the election, but once he is elected screw them. I realize that this does go on all the time. It does not mean I have to like it.
The freedom to do that will likely be one of the first to go. Socialism works best in a vacuum, but I doubt that is possible in this day and age. They'll have to settle for making dissent unlawful, then silencing any who defy them. Works in the short term, up until those who voted for the circus discover they don't get a ticket either...
