Today is the official day the OAUA is to shut down because they can’t get a new Board of Directors. Will they once again ignore their own deadlines and actions?

Announcement:
The current BOD is looking into the possibility of voting to close the OAUA within 2 weeks, on January 27, 2004. We have 3 board members now, and we need a full board in order to remain viable in the current OAI. Therefore, if there are any members that are willing to join the current BOD now is the time to do so. If no one has shown that willingness by January 27, 2004 we will take a vote to close the OAUA down and after all bills are paid, donating the money leftover to the DOUA, The Disabled Online Users Association, with the stipulation that all of the threads of our message forum be archived and accessible to anyone for a minimum of 3 years.
Here is some information about the DOUA:
“The (DOUA) was established as a way to bring technology to the differently-abled by means of one-on-one support, resources, motivation, and whenever possible, financial assistance. The core of DOUA consists of both differently-abled and perfectly-abled folks who just want to “give something back” and/or to assist those with disabilities that would otherwise be considered shut-ins or that live at or below the poverty level. Our main focus is to assist people in becoming financially independent – a hand up, not a hand out. This is where Ebay comes into the picture. It IS all about a level playing field and that’s what Ebay provides for us. We can work our own hours, at our own pace, as much or as little as we like. No one ever needs to know that we are differently-abled. The majority of us WANT to work – NEED to work – and LOVE to work. It’s just that we don’t fit into the “mainstream” and sometimes employers are afraid to hire us.
We’re about PEOPLE. It’s always about the PEOPLE. DOUA is here to help ANYONE who needs it. And I hope that ANYONE that can help, will jump right in and do so.”-Marjie/Abovethemall
Please make any comments on this subject here, and if you are interested in joining with the BOD, please email any of us. We would like to see it continue, but if it can’t, we know that helping the DOUA is a wonderful way for us to help the OAI community. Thank you.
